Aloha

Smile Aloha.  I found the draft, and have even added to it.  Hope you like the new theme.  I feel serious tonight, and am going to lay out a burden that I think many of us carry, and in very unique, individual ways.

It relates to the theme of the page, 'Live Earth.'  This is not the moment in history to forget our Mother, Gaia, the planet.  Aina in Hawaiian.  So profoundly related to the organic livingness of our planet,  Earth, I am going to come out for - No Nukes!  Maybe this has all been said before, maybe better than this writer can say it, but I have to say it; and if it lights a spark of recognition in one person, it will be worth it.

There is little aloha in nuclear winter, which is the outcome of a major nuclear weapons going off kind of war or accident or whatever we might call it.  Do we really believe that we can keep making and maintaining and rehearsing the use of, and scenarios for the use of these terrible weapons with impunity, whilst indefinitely spending immense economic, material and human resources on things that will never be used?  While some interested parties may claim this overkill militancy is good, or even necessary for the economy - there is no useful end product.  After all these things, and we're talking nuclear weapons, here, of almost inconceivable horribleness; that are never going to be used.  Pray that this bull shit, turns out, by Amazing Grace, and the good, intelligent and timely actions of good, sincere people to be the truth.

Please, fellow citizens of the United States of America - let us join together to be the first to dismantle our nuclear weapons.  Exactly how we can achieve this in an expiditious, humble and dignified way is a matter for us, a democratic community with able leaders in government, industry, religion and academia; to discuss, reason and work out together.

Actually this process has already begun, as our thoughtful leaders continue to work on arms reduction.  I think, perhaps we need to commit to nuclear disarmament, then reduction of our military to strength sufficient to maintain peace and security in our homeland only; relying then on close, solid co-operation with all fellow nations on this small globe to assure that no despotic outlaws arise to violate, at once, the safety, prosperity, health, freedom,  happiness, cultural and spiritual values of the planetary community.  I won't bother to characterize the motives and/or rationales of such bad guys, but they do have a nasty way of turning up from time to time.  We must be vigilant, yes?  Didn't someone say, "Eternally."

What an opportunity this is - look, we are the only nation to have ever used nuclear force in war.  Those who think that there is safety in mutual deterrance, are kidding themselves.  Nuclear winter is a very real, very bad and very possible outcome of the current planetary armament situation. All should voluntarily and immediately (in my dream scenario) scuttle our nukes.  But this has been true since the end of World War II.  Not happening.

What might stimulate or catalyze this, is a courageous and contrite act of real world leadership by the U.S., in setting up an earnest and firm resolve, promise, schedule and enthusiasm for the de-nuclearization of the planet's armed forces - beginning with us.  Look at the jobs created, and the money saved over the long haul.  What a boon for the economy.  What an amazing grace to civilization; the safety and prosperity of funnelling our resources into constructive agendas.  This is the real payoff.  Everybody wins.  I like that.

Stealing now, from the Baha'i vision of this scenario (the author is a Baha'i, but it would be O.K. anyway, if he wasn't) -

A world without nuclear weapons and the huge, oppressive (in every sense of the word), military forces and budgets; sufficient to destroy the planet many times over, would require the mutual co-operation of the military forces of all nations, to enforce an agreement to keep military strength sufficient to maintain order within each nation's globally agreed upon borders, which must be agreed upon by the generality of the people, with due respect for all ethnic, and other spiritual, historical and factual realities.

If any one or more should presume to violate this universal sanction, all must unite to terminate their authority and, with that nation's people, leaders, learned and elders; reconstitute that nation's government according to civilized constitutional principles.

This is my opinion.  What do you think?  And what are you willing and able to do about it?

Surely any and every one of us can do something. Maybe not everyone can, or will plead the Blood of Jesus (I can and do) but anyone can pray for a clean getaway.  At least I think so.   And, aloha always works.  Let's hear from you.

Allah'u'abha.
